'The Hunter Chronicles Handbooks' series is a companion series to 'The Hunter Chronicles' children's storybook/fiction series. More specifically, the Handbooks are a non-fiction companion study guide series that unpack the events and incidents that occur in the stories and the lives of the major characters Ethan and Stephanie Hunter; drawing out life lessons which are then applied to the moral and spiritual development of the reader.
Each of the 7 lessons in the book relate to a major teaching of the Bible, and the aim is to allow the reader to explore and learn what the Bible teaches, and how these Biblical teachings apply to the spiritual lives of the readers.
Lessons are divided into 5 main sections (as follows) and can be uses for individual or personal study, for families for bed-time reading and family worship, or for use in a religious education setting or small group.
FROM THE TRUTH CODEX: Each study begins with some powerful words from the Truth Codex (the Bible). The passage will give you a hint on what the lesson is about, something to think about afterwards, or perhaps even a verse to memorise. After all, you never know when you'll need a promise from God to help you meet the challenges that come your way. "If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you." (James 1:5 NLT) This section is marked with the symbol of a book.
HUNTER'S CHALLENGE: Ethan and Stephanie quickly discover that life is full of challenges, but that meeting the challenges head on is part of what makes life fun and exciting. With every challenge comes the thrill of the search, and exhilaration of overcoming the obstacles and finding your way past all the barriers to the answers you seek. The HUNTER'S CHALLENGE section of each lesson spells out the particular struggle Ethan or Stephanie was facing in the corresponding chapter of the storybook; it also highlights some of the questions they were keen to find answers for. You may find that some of the questions and challenges they faced are very similar to ones you have had to deal with. A compass has been used as the symbol of this section.
TRUTH HUNTER: The Truth Codex was written a long time ago, and sometimes reading it can feel like we are trying to discover answers that seem to be locked away and hidden from us. The good news is that it doesn't have to be that way. Jesus has given us a helper called the Holy Spirit to be our friend and guide in our search for truth. "When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future." (John 16:13 NLT) Jesus' Holy Spirit is our indispensable helper and guide, so it is most important to begin every study of the Truth Codex with a time of prayer asking that the Holy Spirit will be with you and unlock the truth of God's Word. This section is identified with the symbol of a key.
THE WAY OF THE HUNTER: The Way of the Hunter is a special code, a way of living your life. It's not easy, and it's most definitely not for the faint-hearted. Like Ethan, Stephanie and their friends, you will discover that The Way of the Hunter takes discipline, effort and practice to perfect your aim and hit the target you seek. Lots of people commence the training, believing that they have what it takes to make it all the way; but the truth is you will never make it alone. Without the help of good friends, the Holy Spirit to guide you along the way, and Jesus Christ to walk at your side you will find The Way simply too difficult. On the other hand, if you surround yourself with the best of the best, and apply yourself to the task, your hands will be steady, your eye keen, your aim will be true, and you will hit the mark. We challenge you to begin living your life according to The Way of the Hunter. A bow and arrow has been used as the symbol for this section.
TAKE IT HOME: You've read the chapter in Hunter and the Forbidden Cave. You've completed the corresponding lesson in the Hunter's Handbook. Now what? Well, if you want to make it all the to the end of the journey, living your life according to The Way of the Hunter the entire way, then there are certain things you take home with you. These final thoughts are offered in the TAKE IT HOME section of the lesson. These are the hidden gems; the secret treasures that you don't want to lose or forget. They will provide comfort, and strength, and answers each day as you face whatever life throws at you. This section is marked with a treasure chest symbol. The book is filled with puzzles, mazes, games, brain teasers, and coded for the reader to crack, along with maps, and profiles of the major characters in the companion storybooks.
A child who studies through the entire 4 volumes will have learned about all of our fundamental beliefs and will be prepped for baptism, in fact the last lesson in Volume 4 deals with baptism and even invites a child to read through the General Conference endorsed “Simplified baptismal Vows” and make a decision for baptism.
